Multi-city travel works when each place has a job. One city for arrival and orientation, one for the reason you came, one for a slower ending. Three well-chosen stops are kinder than five hurried ones.
Leave margin in the transfers. The journey should feel like a sequence of places, not a sequence of stations. If a day has no unplanned hour in it, it is probably too full.
